Reflecting On One Year of Mujeres in Marketing
Today marks one year since the launch of Mujeres in Marketing — and what a year it’s been.
It’s easy to say time flies, but when you’re building something with purpose, you feel every moment. You feel the growth, the challenges, the victories, the pivots. And this past year has been full of all of that — hustle, inspiration, community, and a whole lot of heart.
Mujeres in Marketing (MiM) was created out of a real and urgent need: community. For too long, Latinas in the marketing industry have existed in silos — excelling in our roles, making things happen behind the scenes, but rarely finding spaces intentionally built for us, by us.
The data speaks volumes: Latinos are the largest ethnic group in marketing in the U.S., and nearly half of all marketers are women. Yet culturally grounded spaces that nurture our careers and center our voices? Still far too rare.
MiM emerged to change that.
We set out to build a community where Latinas in marketing could gather, learn, lead, and thrive — a space that honors our roots while advancing our professional journeys. From day one, the mission has been clear: to connect and uplift Latina marketers across disciplines and generations, ensuring that no one has to navigate this industry alone.
Since launching, MiM has:
-
Hosted signature events like ConoceLAs, spotlighting Latina leaders across the country
-
Partnered with employee resource groups, nonprofits, and community orgs
-
Built a network that extends beyond geography — crossing industries, borders, and experiences
-
Launched Preparadas, our growing online platform for career development and connection
-
Been powered by ganas, grassroots support, and a vision that puts community first
Of course, growth comes with challenges. Boards shift. Life happens. Visions evolve. But through it all, our commitment to creating space for Latinas in marketing has never wavered. I’d like to give a special thank you to our Founding Board Members, Yeliza Centeio, Ana Carolina Salazar, and Krystal Morris for their contributions in getting MiM to where it is today.
I’d also like to give a thank you to our phenomenal current Board of Directors:
- Luana Ortiz, serving as Vice President
- Dr. Andrea Ortega, serving as our Treasurer and Head of Research and Grants
- Laura Camila Rivera, serving as our Head of Partnerships and Sponsorships
As well as our amazing Advisory Board Members Marisa Diaz and Marcela DeFaria for their invaluable insights and contributions to Mujeres in Marketing presently.
Mujeres in Marketing was never about one person — it’s about all of us. Every message, every post share, every donation, every “yes” to attending an event — that’s what keeps this movement alive.
This work is for the Latinas who are just getting started, those pivoting careers, those leading the way, and those who haven’t yet found their people. It’s for the creatives, strategists, storytellers, analysts, founders, freelancers — and everyone in between.
We exist to make sure our community doesn’t just survive in this industry — we thrive in it. With dignity, with power, and with joy.
So today, we say gracias.
To every single person who’s been part of this story so far — your belief in us means everything.
And to the Latinas reading this: keep going.
Even when things feel uncertain. Even when the system wasn’t built with us in mind. Especially then. Your voice, your vision, and your brilliance are needed more than ever.
Mujeres in Marketing is just getting started — and we’d love for you to be part of what’s next.
